Feb 19, 2018

Head of the State Center for Tobacco Planning and Supervision met with the Indian Tobacco Delegation consisting of representatives of the Indian Department of Industry and Commerce, heads of state and representatives of the Tobacco Association and tobacco companies.

Engineer Ali Asghar Ramzi, while presenting a number of laws and regulations governing the tobacco industry in Iran, in particular the country’s tobacco monopoly law, as well as the regulations governing tobacco control in the country, emphasized the importance of developing bilateral cooperation with the prospect of economic development for both countries.

Ramzi added that the major supply for domestic tobacco leaves is imported, and only one-fifth is obtained from domestic tobacco cultivation and Iran has a high potential for foreign investment in this sector. In this regard, the Indian delegation requested information on the investment method in the construction of primary plant (tobacco leaf processing) in Iran, which was discussed at the meeting.

Referring to ready grounds for domestic production units to engage with Indian companies in the field of tobacco needs, Ramzi expressed hope that in the near future, the private companies of the two countries will be able to work closely together.
